The 2020 Essence Festival® will be here before you know it! It’s Happening July 1-5th in New Orleans, LA. The Essence Festival is an annual music festival that celebrates African American women and music! It is the largest event in the United States, celebrating African American culture. It is called “The Party With a Purpose!” The very 1st Essence Music Festival or “Essence Fest” was held in 1995 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence Magazine. The festival is held in New Orleans LA.
This year’s theme is called “Essence Festival of Culture”. The 2020 Essence Festival® is celebrating 50 years of moving the culture forward. Expect to be immersed in African American Culture as the biggest names in music, fashion, film, television, politics, beauty will be contributing to fun!
Daytime events will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center while evening concerts are performed at the Mercedes Benz Super-dome.

I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans, and now thar I know of this festival, even more so. I bet there will be lots of music and dancing. Do local bands play at that event too?

This would be quite a tour and a good way to not only explore the city, but really dig deep into the city’s history and culture as well. We can cover a lot of ground in four days and learn a lot, especially from someone like me who’s never been to New Orleans before.

Wow, it’s here again, another opportunity to get out of stress and work, its Essence Music Festival. I was in New Orleans last year for this same event and it was an amazing experience. You guys should try and attend, I promise you’ll not regret it. Its an avenue to appreciate African American women and music, it’s always interesting, from the sight of town, to the concerts, shopping and lots more. Hi, thank you for this article because I have never heard of the Essence Music Festival. It sounds like New Orleans would be a great place for it. I think it would be awesome to spend the weekend there on the 4th of July. Seeing all the sights and listening to great music is really something to look forward to.

The Essence Music Festival has always been one of the best and biggest celebrations of African American women and the music has been top notch. Other major festivals like AfroFest or Broccoli City pale in comparison to the Essence Music Festival and in the rich environs of New Orleans, it will be an incredible experience. Celebrating women and music, especially African-American women and music is a great idea. I didn’t realize that a whole festival has been created for this musical niche. I can imagine that arena bursting with energy and excitement during that celebration. What a great idea this is.

This is really nice I must say. Since I started living in the US I haven’t seen any event like that, when I was still school is Canada I attended so many festival celebrating African American and I must confess its really cool seeing people of similar root around you excited, that joy is priceless. Hello there, I am white but my wife is African American and I love the way she speaks highly of her people, their lifestyle, music and food and sometimes I wish I was one of them. I would love to make this a surprise to her. Are there reservations to be made in any form, or anything required to be settled so she would not have to go through all that?

At certain points in the year, there is a need to observe and celebrate our nature and culture and the essence festival of culture is one way to achieve this. I think we need more of events like this to help preserve our culture.

I’ve visited New Orleans several years ago and loved the city and its culture! But I had never been to the Essence Festival. It sounds like a lot of fun and education!
Are only the African American women invited? While I still might feel empowered and appreciated, I definitely won’t feel so as an African American woman as I’m not… 😉

In fact it is the nation’s largest annual gathering of African-American musical talent and unprecedented cultural celebrations. The ESSENCE Festival is sponsored by Essence Magazine.
